What If Women Ruled the World? (2017)

In this experimental performance piece conceived by Israeli artist Yael Bartana, a pacifist president and her all-female cabinet are facing a dilemma: while they are undergoing a programme of disarmament, the male president of another country increases his nuclear stockpile and begins posturing for war. The female president must decide how to respond. She consults with some of the world's leading minds - defence advisers, soldiers, lawyers, peace activists, humanitarians and politicians - to help her make her decision.

After its initial run at the Manchester International Festival, Yael decided to rethink the project prior to its international premiere. She brought me on board to help reconceive, develop and write the new version. The reshaped piece was performed at Studio 1, Filmby Aarhus in Denmark from 23rd-25th November 2017 and again, in a modified form, at the Volksbühne Theatre in Berlin from 12th-14th April 2018 and 6th-7th June 2018.
